About the Artist

The work of Judith Motzkin has been exhibited nationally and internationally with her unique “flame painted” clay works represented in the permanent collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.Motzkin’s mixed media and digital work represent a spirit of adventure into the challenges of materials and ideas to be explored. She as had four solo exhibitions of this work, including series revolving around tea, stones, secrets, and passages. Many have chosen her vessels as urns for the ashes of loved ones. Her “eggshell bowl” was selected as a Mayoral gift to Cambridge’s sister city of Tsukuba, Japan.

Motzkin was a founding member and director of the Cambridgeport Artists Open Studios (CAOS). She has served on the Cambridge Arts Council Advisory Board. She has taught as visiting artist at Radcliffe-Harvard, MIT, Mass College of Art and various craft programs and workshops.

Motzkin’s work is featured on the covers of Lark Book’s 500 Bowls and Rockport Press’s Best of Pottery. In November 2001 it was the cover story in Ceramics Monthly magazine.

Judy lives in Cambridge Massachusetts with her husband and children. Her studio was fashioned from an old stable behind her 150 year old house.

Studio visits are welcome by chance or appointment.
